Common questions
Do I need a GP referral to book a scan?
Not for most scans. You can self-refer for MRI and ultrasound and book directly. Scans that use X-rays, such as CT, X-ray, mammography and DEXA, need a referral from a registered clinician under UK radiation regulations. It does not have to be your own GP, and the centre confirms the scan is justified before it goes ahead.
How quickly can I get an appointment?
Most of our partner centres can offer appointments within 1–5 working days. Availability varies by scan type and location.
Will the radiologist report go to my GP?
Your report is delivered to your ScanBook patient portal. You can choose to share it with your GP, specialist, or any other clinician.
Are your centres CQC registered?
We show each centre’s Care Quality Commission registration on its own page, with a link to the CQC record so you can read the inspection report yourself. Where we have not been able to verify a registration, we do not claim it.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Free cancellation with a full refund up to 48 hours before your appointment. Within 48 hours you can still cancel, but the booking is non-refundable. The same 48-hour cutoff applies to rescheduling.
Can I use private medical insurance?
Many of our partner centres accept major UK insurers including Bupa, AXA Health, Aviva, and Vitality. Contact the centre directly to confirm your policy details before booking.
